applejuice Accountablity

If you have a brother or sister in Christ that is living in sin and you know it. It is your place to go to them and point it out. Go in love and compassion to point out the error of their way. Pray them if they accept your rebuke of the sin. If they don't take an elder of the church with you. If they still don't wash your hands of them, but keep them in your prayers.

By keeping them in your prayers, you are holding out the hope of them doing true repentance of their sin. True repentance… Continue

Joan K. Harrington Greek Nugget. "Stretch out your hand!"

Mar 3:5 And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other.

Today's Greek nuggets center on two emotional words spoken about our Savior. Anger and Grief. In the Greek there are several words that speak of anger. ὀργή (orge); this word indicates an abiding and settled habit of mind, although not visible at t

debaug1 Why?????

I had a very sad start to my day today. I was notified on facebook that a friend with whom I grew up had died overnight. I had not seen him since we graduated from high school, about 36 years ago. I moved away from my hometown a year after graduation and have not seen many people from back then. It has been wonderful to re-connect with some of those I knew all those years ago, but some things are rather to hear about also.

It upset me immensely to learn of his death, but more f

applejuice What is more important showing God or what you want?

What is more important to you? Talking to your friends or taking the time to stop and chat with a stranger that needs help? I see more in life that people, even Christians, looking out for themselves, only wanting to associate with the people that are their friends, and making other people feel like they aren't important.

In my own life I have experienced this from other Christians with statements like "How can I help," "What do you want,' What do you need?" We as Christians should nev

Joan K. Harrington A Greek Nugget for Today

In Mark 2:2 we find that there were many who gathered to hear Jesus. Sometimes we are so used to the larger story that we do not notice a finer point. The Greek portion I am interested in today is where it says "ελαλει αυτοις τον λογον" The KJV says "he preached the word unto them." The NIV also says "he preached." However, the Greek word used here is lContinue

stephen mbaga Time to stand out and be counted for Jesus!

just yesterday, the words of song writer Ray Boltz hit me like never before, that heaven is counting on me!

never had that phrase meant so much like it is in our days when compromise has taken a centre stage and people have grown a cold approach to christianity. The days of daniel, joseph and all those great men of God are gone and now you and i are the ones whom heaven is counting on! shall we sit down and keep silent as slowly the society embarks on a self destructive path?..secularism o

applejuice What influences you?

Are we diligent in what we listen to and watch? What we let into our minds is what will come out of our mouths. We need to be diligent in what we listen to and watch.

Do the things we allow in line up with Scripture? I know this narrows our choices down next to nothing but isn't it worth it to be able to know that what comes out of our mouth is what God wants put into our minds.

The people, the shows, the music, etc., all influence how we think and act. We may say we are inde… Continue

Joan K. Harrington A Greek Nugget

Years ago when I was a student at Moody Bible Institute I was privileged to have Dr. Wuest as my professor when I first started taking Greek. He always shared what he called "Greek Nuggets" with us -- like discovering gold among all the difficult Greek words. I loved them.

So I have decided to put a few nuggets on my site or in my blog. There are so many delightful lessons to be learned from the New Testament Greek. Today I will start with Mark 1:18 where it says that Peter

Wesley Johnson Arming Ourselves with the Word

Do you keep a bible handy whenever you go out of the house? If someone asked to borrow a bible from you to look up a verse, would you have on with you to lend?

Paul writes that we are to arm ourselves with the breastplate of righteousness and to wield the sword given to us, which is the Word of God.

Remember, however, that the Word of God is not confined to the book that you hold in your hands but is the Word which we learn and wield in our hearts.

applejuice The Word and its importance to our lives

The Word is an important our faith, we need to study the Word to go deeper in our faith. If we want to grow and learn how to rely on God we need to be in the Word. The Word shows and teaches what it means to be a Christ follower and the how of being able to rely on God for all our needs. The Word shows us how to pray and how to grow. I am paraphrasing Paul as I make this statement. Some of us are like new born infants on milk and cannot handle the meat and potatoes of the walk, but those of us t… Continue

Wesley Johnson What is unclean to others...

Now, we are looking at the next verse, Romans 14:15...

If your brother is distressed because of what you eat, you are no longer acting in love. Do not by your eating destroy your brother because of what you for whom Christ died.

Well, that makes things a little more specific, doesn't it? So, we aren't doing bad if we don't see our actions as bad and they aren't prohibited by the bible, but if we do these things so that a brother or sister in the faith who consi

Wesley Johnson Clean and Unclean

Let's look in Romans chapter 14, verse 14:

As one who is in the Lord Jesus, I am fully convinced that no food is unclean in itself. But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for him it is unclean.

This is not just talking about food, but everything we do. So, if what one man does he does without considering it bad, and it is not prohibited by the Bible, then he is not doing anything bad. But if another person considers that thing to be bad, then to him i

Joan K. Harrington Here is a challenge. I will come here weekly to deposit what I call a Greek Nugget.

There are so many verses in the New Testament that open up with deeper means when one know how to do a proper hermeneutic in the Greek language. I love Greek. I have had 27 college credit hours in Greek from Tennessee Temple College, Moody Bible Institute and Barrington College. If there are enough folk who might be interested from time to time in checking out what I call a "Greek Nugget" I will do this in my blogs. First you must let me know if you want this. So leave me a note and challenge me… Continue

Wesley Johnson War against sin

Starting in Romans 7:14, Paul writes:
We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do not do what I want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me...For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of
